Retinopathy of prematurity: Is suppression of neovascularization achievable?

Recently Johnson et al. 1 reported a delay in the progression of retinopathy of prematurity
(ROP) in a group of infants with prethreshold disease treated with upper physiologic levels
of Dc~-tocopherol (DAT), in comparison with a control group. Experimentally in the kitten,
Phelps and Rosenbaum 2 were able to show a decrease in neovascularization when DAT
therapy was stal~ ed after exposure of the animals to hyperoxia. The suppressive effect on
