Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIP) include a group of nonneoplastic, noninfectious lung
diseases with a diverse spectrum of pulmonary abnormalities. The term is somewhat
descriptive and inaccurate, because not all diseases classified as being in this category are
limited to the interstitium, nor is the etiology entirely idiopathic. However, most of the
diseases have some degree of interstitial cellular infiltration and/or collagen deposition
