Fluctuating asymmetry was evaluated in the dental arcades of 112 children (60 male, 52
female) of alcoholic mothers. Only individuals who showed no signs of the fetal alcohol
syndrome were included. When these results were compared with those of a control group
of 120 normal children, the former group was found to be significantly more asymmetric. The

Summary
