Background Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, slowly progressive neoplastic and
metastasizing disorder characterized by progressive cystic destruction of the lung with
marked female predominance. Clinical manifestations include exertional dyspnea, recurrent
pneumothoraces, chylous effusions in the chest and abdomen, and abdominal tumors such
as renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs).
